The honest overview
If you are re-roofing, your roofer cannot legally touch the solar - a CEC-accredited installer must remove the panels and inverter, store them, and re-install after the roofer is finished. If you are demolishing or selling the home and want to take the solar with you, the same process applies. If your panels are 8+ years old, sometimes the maths favours leaving the panels behind and starting fresh - we'll tell you.

Is it cheaper to relocate my old solar or buy new?
Depends on age. Panels less than 6 years old are worth relocating. Panels 6-10 years old are borderline (the relocation cost approaches the cost of cheap new panels). Panels over 10 years old are usually not worth moving.
Will my warranty still apply after re-install?
Panel manufacturer warranties usually survive. Installer workmanship warranty resets to whoever does the re-install.
Can my roofer just remove the panels for me?
No - it is illegal in SA. Solar removal involves electrical work that must be done by a licensed electrician with CEC accreditation.
