Solar Panels Adelaide

System Upgrades

Upgrade your existing solar without losing what you already have.

If your original Adelaide solar was sized for 2010 usage, it's almost certainly too small for 2026 - especially if you have added air conditioning, an EV, or a pool. Upgrading from 3kW or 5kW to 10kW+ is straightforward, but the 44c distributor feed-in tariff (still active for some pre-2011 systems) is sensitive to modifications.

$2,500 - $14,000 depending on upgrade scope

The honest overview

There are four common upgrade paths: (1) add more panels on existing inverter (if it has capacity), (2) replace inverter with a larger model + add panels, (3) replace string inverter with hybrid + add battery, (4) full system replacement. The right choice depends on inverter capacity, panel age, and whether you are on the legacy 44c SA distributor feed-in tariff (which is sensitive to system changes).

System Upgrades: questions

Will adding panels void my 44c distributor feed-in tariff?

Possibly - per sa.gov.au, changes to your system may affect your eligibility. Contact SA Power Networks on 1300 665 913 BEFORE any modification. The maths sometimes favours keeping the small original system on 44c and adding a separate new system that runs the household.

Can I add panels with a different brand to my existing ones?

Technically yes but it complicates the install. Different panel brands have different voltage characteristics and need to be wired on separate strings (different MPPT channels). Most installers prefer to add the same panel model where possible.

Should I just replace the whole system?

If your existing system is more than 12 years old and below 5kW, full replacement often pays back faster than incremental upgrades. Our referred installers run both numbers so you can decide.
